The Queens Silver Steed

Several months ago I met an interesting couple. The wife enjoys giraffes, and collects giraffe sculptures. She had owned 2 horses, and missed riding them. The husband is a hard working corporate executive that gives generously to their employees and to the community. One of his favorite hobbies is to put out a pile of bait. sit in his comfortable blind, with his electronic toys, and rifle. He waits until a hungry animal approached the pile of food. If that helpless animal meets his expectations, he kills it, and has its head mounted to a wall in their home. He also enjoys having many mechanical toys to ride on or in. I was asked if I would design an outdoor giraffe sculpture for them. My proposal, that reflected on their interests, was as follows. A noble giraffe, but only the head and neck, set on a mechanical base that was designed as a rocking giraffe, that could be ridden. They were uninterested. I built it anyway. What we give to the world is more important than what we take.
